Tomb Sweeping Day, also called the Qingming Festival, is a very important holiday in Taiwan. It usually happens in early April. On this day, families go to the cemetery to visit their ancestors. They clean the tombs, pull out weeds, and wipe the tombstones to show respect.
Families also bring offerings like fruit, food, and flowers. Many people burn joss paper (spirit money) and light incense. It is not just a sad day; it is also a time for a "spring outing." Families enjoy the fresh air, fly kites, and eat traditional foods like green rice balls or spring rolls. It is a day to say "thank you" to our family from the past.
